Who we are
The Automated Explorer is an AI training business for marketing teams and freelancers, run by Becky Epton. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Becky Epton trading as The Automated Explorer is the data controller of your personal data.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number C1954626.

What data we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Contact details — your name and email address when you join our mailing list, register for a webinar, download a resource, or submit an enquiry.
- Enquiry details — information you choose to share in enquiry forms or emails, such as your business, role, and what you'd like help with.
- Booking and payment details — when you book a paid session, our payment and booking providers collect the details needed to process your booking. We do not store your card details ourselves.
- Event participation data — registration and attendance information for webinars and workshops.
- Email engagement data — our email platform records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked, so we can understand what's useful.
This website does not require an account and we aim to collect only what we need.
How we use your data and our lawful bases
- To send you our newsletter and updates — with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
- To respond to enquiries and deliver training you've booked — because this is necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract, or to perform our contract with you.
- To run webinars and workshops you've registered for — to perform our contract with you, or on the basis of our legitimate interest in running our events.
- To keep business and accounting records — to comply with our legal obligations, including tax law.
- To understand how our emails and website perform — on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving our services.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Who we share your data with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the business. They process your data on our behalf or as independent controllers, under their own contractual and legal obligations:
- MailerLite — email marketing platform, used for our newsletter, waitlists, and sign-up forms.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and provides security and performance services.
- Luma — event registration for webinars and workshops.
- Google — calendar booking for calls (Google Calendar appointment scheduling).
- Stripe — payment processing for paid sessions.
We may also share data where required by law, or with professional advisers (such as an accountant) under confidentiality obligations.
International transfers
Some of our service providers store or process data outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where data leaves the UK, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep your data
- Mailing list data — for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal suppression record so we don't email you again.
- Enquiry data — typically up to two years after our last contact, unless you become a client.
- Client and financial records — for six years after the end of the relevant tax year, as required by UK tax law.
Cookies and tracking
This website is a simple static site and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies. Our embedded sign-up forms and email platform (MailerLite) may set cookies or use similar technologies to make forms work and to measure sign-ups. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may set strictly necessary cookies for security purposes. Because we don't use non-essential tracking cookies, we don't display a cookie consent banner. If this changes, we'll update this policy and introduce one.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances.
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time.
- Portability — receive the data you provided to us in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent — where we rely on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier processing.

Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by calling 0303 123 1113.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page, with the date of the most recent update shown at the top.
